“There is Only One Mediator!”

by Mark T. Hancock · 1 comment

Yesterday I was in court as part of a civil proceeding.

The bailiff asked the court to rise as the judge entered and took her seat at the bench.  After a quick look around the courtroom at the lawyers, plaintiffs and defendants gathered to resolve disputes, she declared, “There is only one mediator!”

I wanted to shout, “AMEN!” as the words from Paul’s letter to Timothy echoed in my heart and mind:

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;  Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2:5-6)

I thought, “Wow! We’re going to get a salvation message!”

Then it occurred to me.  She was talking about the person appointed by the court to attempt to resolve differences between parties before going to trial.  Her announcement meant that only one case could be processed at a time, as there was only one mediator available to meet with the parties.

I thanked God that our Mediator is not limited. That the Seed has come and the promise is fulfilled. That there is a better covenant secured by our mediator, who stands between us and the judge to represent our cause, taking the full effect of our wrong in order to secure a free sentence for us.

Read these verses, and thank God that our Mediator is magnificent.

Galatians 3:9-29

Hebrews 8:6-13

Hebrews 9:11-15

Hebrews 12:22-24
