Years ago, when my wife was an insurance adjuster, she would wear a pager. Remember those?

Certain weeks the rotation required her “on call” status, which meant that any after-hours insurance claims emergencies would be handled by her.

During these times we were occupied with an awareness that, at any moment, she could be called on because a home had burned down or some other catastrophe had fallen on a family. Cleanup and extraction crews were dispatched to secure the property so no further damage would occur and restoration could begin.

It affected our lives. Plans were altered, allowing freedom to respond.

As believers, it would serve us well to think of ourselves as always “on call.” We’ve been gifted to occupy ourselves with His purposes.

At any moment we should be ready to be launched into action at the prompting of the Holy Spirit to help secure lives and facilitate restoration. With so much pain and desperation in our culture, don’t you think He’s calling his partners to action?

I think, if we were tuned in, we may find that our pager is beeping more than we thought.

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you,
whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
